Annual October Girls Road Trip & Found Treasures

October brings on my favorite season, Autumn, and
one of my favorite road trips.

Julie and I have enjoyed this trip since 2011.
Mostly staying at Big Cedar Lodge

Enjoying the beauty of The Ozarks and of course shopping!
Boomshakalaka!
Boomland is one of our favorite home decor stores and offers amazing selections for seasonal decor.
It's a must for us to visit when were in the area!

Another of our favorite haunt is the Spring Creek Tea Room in Ozark, MO.
Not only can you get a nice lunch and home-made desserts, but it's attached to an antique store!

Here are some of my treasures from this trip
 Beautiful Celluloid dress trim

Mini canvas print

Deer plate (inspiration for a Christmas vignette)

Isn't this fox figurine the cutest fox ever?

Vintage Red Glass Art Decor and Cut Steel buckle

1950s aluminum starburst molds

Deer platter
(more inspiration for a Christmas vignette)

Vintage tatting trim

1958 Turkey platter

Vintage Milk Glass vase and vintage porcelain/Bone China lids

 Vintage lace & trims

Like any vacation, we anticipated our trip, enjoyed every second sharing it together
and sad when it was over.

Awe, but another road trip is in our plans...Junk Jubilee here we come!

Pickin Treasures: Christmas Decor & Vintage Textiles

I receive weekly estate sale emails from estatesales.net
If you enjoy estate sale shopping and are not currently on their email list, I suggest you try them.
They are set-up throughout the USA.

This week I received my estatesales.net listings and there were a ton of them!  Since I no longer resale, I try to rationalize my hunt...Do I have a couple of extra dollars for treasures... is there anything I really need...NO!  Somedays the desire to just go 'treasure pickin' consumes me and the hunt is on.

Rarely do I look for large pieces, I mainly hunt for unique decor & gifts as well as items for my mixed-media artwork.  I have a hard time saying "NO" to holiday items and vintage textiles!

Here are the treasures I picked this week
 A beautifully weathered-patina small child's sled...perfect for a Christmas tablescape!

Christmas tidbits

Deep basket shining full of vintage Christmas ornaments.

An adorable vintage deer Christmas centerpiece

Vintage dove ornaments with spun cotton around their wings, one vintage glass bird ornament and a vintage, quirky bird caroler than really needs some loving.

 Beautiful vintage textiles & Celluloid!

My plans for the wonderfully aged pieces of Celluloid are to someday use the round-scalloped orphaned box lid as a frame/base for something special; the cylinder
will hold a mini Christmas tree this year and the square box will house trinkets in my studio.

Last but not least...precious vintage, handmade needle holders.

I love this time of the year as the cooler days of Autumn arrive!  It is my FAVORITE season!
Even though my days of resale are over, I continue this time of the year to go on my 'pickin' and Girls Rule road trips.  This coming weekend Julie & I will be hitting Fabulous Finds on Highway 99 , 230+ miles of garage sales & flea markets through the Flint Hills of Kansas.  So excited!

Barn Gypsies Barn Sale and Outdoor Show

Barn Gypsies Barn Sale and Outdoor Show is a monthly event held April - October
on the last weekend of the month in Hamilton, MO.

Julie and I enjoyed our drive to Hamilton.  Barn Gypsies is a country setting with friendly owners & vendors, offering great items at very reasonable prices!

The barn is brimfull of nicely displayed items while the outside grounds offer a variety of vendors including sandwiches and homemade pies!

We went the Friday of Memorial Day weekend which should have been a packed vendor weekend; however, threats of rain kept some vendors away until Saturday.  While we did not have an abundance of vendors to shop, we did enjoy ourselves and brought home some nice treasures.

We hope to visit again in June and anticipate more vendors and homemade pie!

As usual, I totally forgot to snap photos of my treasures before I tucked them away.  I brought home a handful of vintage jewelry pieces, vintage trims, six vintage buckles, vintage empherma and a couple of vintage bottles.

Our day in photos...

 Julie patiently waiting for me

Photo frame, net frame, bird stand???

If you are near Kansas City, consider taking a day trip to Barn Gypsies - located on the Ford Farm, one mile east of Hamilton, MO, 6896 NE Spring Hill Rd. - Open 9-4 Friday-Saturday-Sunday.  Hopefully the weather will be nice and you'll come home with treasures like we did!

Good Pickin' Day

Last Friday was a great pickin' day... I spent it with my longtime friend Kim.  We headed South to shop various stores in Belton, Greenwood and Lee's Summit, MO.

My friends know by now that if they are hanging out with me, I will be snapping photos.
Here are a couple photos of Kim shopping at Stacks Depot in Belton, MO.  They were in the midst of Christmas decorating for their Holiday Open House that begins tonight.  Beautiful, but I didn't not take any of those photos as they were working on it.

I adore Kim's sweater wrap & scarf!
(covet fits better than adore...smile)

We made lunch reservations at the Country Keepsakes Tearoom in Greenwood, MO
Fabulous quiche, soup and desserts!!

My pickin' finds from the day

Tomorrow I'll be at the West Bottoms shops in Kansas City.  Will I see you there?

Estate Sale Find with Presidential History

Recently at a Kansas City estate sale, I found this darling 1950's
L & M (Lloyd and Mund) clutch purse

This clutch was a bargain on the last day of the sale at 50% off.
I was delighted to purchase it for decor or maybe even as a special 'gift box'.

I did check for rips and stains inside this clutch before purchasing it.  After I got home, I examined it further and discovered tucked in the inside pocket was this special item

Wow!

It is in perfect condition - stored safely away from sunlight and handling.

I imagine the owner of this clutch, carried this clutch the night she attended the
Kennedy For President Rally
Saturday, October 22, 1960 - 8:00 P.M.

and tucked her ticket in the inside pocket as a keepsake.  I wonder if she ever used this clutch again?

I also purchased a box of small notepads the owner had personalized with her name and kept one of them along with the price tag and location of the estate sale to add to the provenance of my historical find.

I've been a picker for many years.  My mother raised us on secondhand items.  My soul has always connected to items that have a past and are often tattered and worn.  I don't pick as often anymore since I closed my vintage business... but, I still love a good pick.
