Recreating Mona Lisa

Sometimes on our girlfriend road trips,
we like to include an art project.

Recently for Girls Fun Weekend, Part 2
Gail gifted us with Mona Lisa cabinet dolls
from the Outlet Store of Victoria Trading Co.

One glance and we knew we had to transform her!

Instead of recreating drab Mona Lisa, we transformed her.

Drab Mona Lisa was painted with primer.

Nora graciously offered to paint our individual dolls
to resemble each of us.

Each of us had our own design ideas.
With lace, fabric, paint, pearls, rhinestones, feathers,
decoupaged images, butterflies and miscellaneous trims,
we transformed her.

I knew immediately I wanted mine to
wear a Marie Antoinette French costume.

I created a wire wide-bustle.  Wrapped the bustle
with paper-mache and wired it around her waist.

Next, I begin cutting and creating various layers of
French-style fabrics for her dress, with an under slip
of scrim to poof her dress.

At Junk Jubilee we bought vintage salt shaker metal lids.
The vendor had a huge bowl of these lids.
He thought someone would find a purpose for them.
He asked us how we planned on using them.
We all said "hats of course".

For each of our hats we used one of these lids as a hat base.
It works great to secure decorations through the holes!

What a fun project!

Girlfriends Gathering - Our Autumn Art & Craft Day

When Girlfriends Gather it is always a wonderful day!
Here's a peek of our recent day together -
friendship, good food, arts & crafts.

My young friend Corinne worked on painting her sugar skull before
she was off to a birthday party.

Marj worked on her crocheted baby blanket gift.

While Gail, Lee, Nora and I created other projects.

We started on Autumn/Halloween canvas art although no one finished theirs in class.
I completed mine later that evening.

My elegant witch canvas art
Sparkly poofs of silver tulle enhanced her sleeves while strands
of black lace, pumpkin seam binding and black mesh became her skirt.
A bit of silver rick-rack along with a black bat for her belt.

Most of our day was spent on creating our necklaces from vintage coin purses.
Who knows how long I have been accumulating these sweet purses, but I had acquired about 20 of them.  Along with bits & pieces of vintage beads, jewelry and trims,
we created our beautiful necklaces.

    Gail's stunning Victorian-style necklace

Lee's lovely button-trimmed necklace - very fitting as Lee is a button collector

Nora's first necklace - a real beauty in teal, silver & pearls
(work in progress)
(finished beauty)

Nora's second necklace - another real beauty in muted tones.

And finally, my necklace also done in muted tones including
mother of pearl beads, pearls and of course some rhinestone bling

It was a beautiful day!

ChristmasScapes with Friends

Holiday cheer, good food, laughter, Girlfriends Gathering... what a fun, beautiful day!

Love these smiles!

My studio is small, so we get cozy when we're altogether.
I offered lots of crafting supplies and others brought supplies to share.
If you look far to the back on this photo, you'll see another room, it's a bathroom...we were bursting at the seams, so we added another table of supplies in the bathroom...personal business and personal shopping all at the same time, LOL.

Our project was ChristmasScapes...I'm always fascinated and in awe of our different styles...traditional, elegant, whimsical, retro, sparkly, adorable designs that we create from
the same pile of supplies.

Missing Marj's finished ChristmasScape, but as you can see it will be amazing!

I cherish these gals as well as Beth & Marj that are missing from this photo!

Hope your holiday season is shared with those you love!
