The Bird Song Swaps- Rosettes

Mercedes Scott hosted the fabric rosette swap at Bird Song 2013.  As a swap participant, we were to create a fabric rosette brooch and include a vintage bird
pin on it.

Beautiful Mercedes by the beautifully wrapped rosettes
Mercedes offered a creative way to exchange the rosettes.  She made a lovely keepsake bird tag with a matching card.  She randomly handed out the cards, the participants then matched their card to the bird tag on the wrapped rosette package.

Here is the bird tag & card I received along with my wrapped rosette swap

The lovely rosette I received was from Lindy.  It was wrapped in two vintage hankies, and included vintage millinery as well as a Victorian era reverse carved glass & reverse-painted rose pin

Inside was Lindy's handmade GORGEOUS silk rosette and a sterling silver bird pin with a garnet eye!
I love every thought, every stitch, every little bit of Lindy's heart that she put into her rosette swap! Thank you Lindy!

Here are the other rosettes... every one of them was different and uniquely beautiful

This cream on cream rosette was my creation.

Laurie Jackson was the winner of my rosette swap

Aren't these rosettes amazingly beautiful?

Inspiration & Creating with Friends

What an awesome blessing - to share, spend time,
learn and create with friends!

In July I visited my dear friend Laurie .  She hosted a gathering of six amazing women at Summer Song.

Laurie taught us canvas art using various ephemera.
Some of us also chose to use vintage textiles and other
small findings on our canvas art.

Once back home I shared my love for canvas art
with another dear friend... Kim.

What I Did On My Summer Vacation - Part 3

I had an incredible summer vacation!

My last night there, Laurie & Dennis treated me to one of their favorite Italian restaurants in Colorado Springs, CO -
Roman Villa

Isn't this a great vintage sign and original building?
The Roman Villa was quaint and charming.

The food, atmosphere and friends were amazing!
A great finale to the last night of my vacation.

Thank you Laurie, Dennis & Ben for your lovely hospitality!

Can't forget sharing these model photos

Snoopy
They are so sweet!

My flight did not leave until 1pm the following afternoon.  We had it all planned out.  We drove early the next morning to Denver and squeezed in three more hours of shopping at the
Denver Brass Armadillo Antique Mall.

Laurie & I love the same style.

Here's to friendships

Good Bye Summer Song,
Miss you all!
Big Hugs, Tami

Girl Time Rules!

Girl Time Rules!

I'll soon be visiting dear friends Laurie, Suzanne & Rebecca, my Bird Song Peeps for some Girl Time & artsy craft time in Colorado.

I love these Girl Time Getaways... good for the
kindred spirit souls in us!

Sadly I'll be visiting Colorado on the heels of the recent tragic fires that devoured more than 18,000 acres and changes some lives forever.

My childhood memories of summer family vacations recall my mother's favorite place was Colorado.  We had a vintage black & white Dreamer camper that my Dad attached to a cut-down vintage black Cadillac hearse.  It made a statement and wherever we traveled, people stared or asked questions about our unique mode of transportation.

We stayed in some of the most beautiful off-the-road places
as our traveling home was all we needed.

Even the year we drove to Florida, down the east coast, around the tip, up through the Gulf and headed home from Louisiana to Kansas City, we rerouted home via
Colorado for my mom.

In my late teens/early twenties I love to backpack camp
alone or with friends.

Here is my last camping adventure in 1982
at Bierstadt Lake in the Rocky Mountain National Park,
Estes Park, CO.

Life interrupted those days of youth and now years later those days of hiking up
mountains are long gone
but, I have fond memories.

It will be startling to see the devastion from the recent fires.

Beyond Colorado's natural beauty, I joyfully anticipate my Girl Time Rules vacation... my soul awaits the beautiful kindred spirits of  these gal pals!

This will be my first time visiting & staying with Laurie at her home.  She is such a sweetie!  I know she will treat me like royalty... can't wait to share some heavy duty
friendship time with her!

Laurie & I met in 2010 at Karla's Cottage Bird Song I event
and have become great friends!

If you drop by and nothing has changed recently on my blog it's because I am away & playing in Colorado.

Be sure to stop back later as I will have oodles of photos and stories to share.

Till then take care & find the wonderful in each day ~ Tami
