What is a Button Club?

We are a club that meets monthly in the Kansas City Metro with the purpose
to study and preserve antique/vintage and studio clothing buttons.

Like so many collectibles, clothing buttons tell a timeline of...
History, Art, Theater, Wars, Politics, Manufacturing, Science and MORE.

Button Collecting is world-wide!

If you are interested in button collecting and
want to visit a button club in your area, please email me privately.
Or visit the National Button Society to find a club near you.

Evening Star Button Club Christmas - 2016

Christmas buttons along with mini bottle brush trees snuggled into vintage children button-up shoes
created the kitchen table centerpiece for our 2016 Evening Star Button Club Christmas party

Laughter, smiles and friendship as we exchanged our homemade button-related gifts

Here are the button card holders I created using vintage wooden thread spools,
lace trims and rhinestone buttons - along with tis the SEASON to be jolly La Mode button card

Venita hand-stitched adorable felt snowman ornaments!
Each snowman had a different button.  My snowman as shown in this photo sports
a wonderful dimi mirror back button on its hat.

Jennifer created fun, colorful, whimsical flower button pins!

Lee gussied up with lace, ribbon & beads a sweet glove button hook ornament!

Lori talked her insurance agent into donating several desktop 2016 calendars and then she button'fied' the calendar!
Along with her calendar, Lori also created these precious button snowman pins!

This is Pam's third series of mini altered matchbox ornaments with enclosed buttons.
Each series has been different and all are wonderful!

Lisa decorated slouchy hats with black glass buttons...styling!

Yep, styling...check it out!

From base to tree, Tara created these gorgeous snowy button trees!
(Perfect for my low-tone Christmas decorating)

Ruth Ann created these beautiful button paperweights!

We are a creative group of button collectors!

After sharing our potluck lunch and gifts, we moved downstairs to my studio where we
uniquely created our own button box
I placed a white moonglow button in each button box as a friendship button.

It is a joy to be part of this button club and call these woman FRIENDS!

Our Evening Star Button Club has slowly, but surely been working its way through studying
the National Button Society's Blue Book - the official NBS Classification & Competition Guidelines.

It has been a long journey of study, but well worth learning how to classify buttons
and how to care and preserve them.

Evening Star Button Club Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary!

June 28, 2016 the Evening Star Button Club turns 10!

On June 13th, our club gathered to celebrate it's 10th anniversary.  Charter members, former members and current members were invited to attend.

Evening Star Button Club started with five charter members, only one charter member remains which is me.

Over the years we've had twenty-four members
with a current roster of eleven.

For some of my readers, you may wonder what in the world I am talking about, a Button Club?

As button collectors, we study and preserve antique, vintage, modern and studio clothing buttons.

Antique and vintage buttons are works of art, they have been made from nearly all materials and cover numerous themes.  Through the years they've depicted world history in art, fashion, politics, wars, theater, literature, science, manufacturing...life.

Evening Star Button Club was formed to offer an evening platform for a study group as well as the charter members sharing a special interest in star buttons, hence our club name.

I created commemorative buttons for our occasion

Venita gave everyone a sweet friendship poem with
a black glass button

Lee and her sister made this wonderful button flower gifts

Lee is so clever, she came up with the idea to name our refreshments based on what they looked like in buttons.

A Realistic button's outline resembles the object it portrays.

Lacies refers to "Lacy" glass buttons from the late 1800s.

Red Glass set in Metal represents glass buttons that are
set in/on metal.

These brownies we called Black Glass buttons with decorative finish of white paint (confectioners sugar).

Our fruit pizza was pretty enough to mimic jewels often found on 18th Century Deluxe buttons, this size was x-large!

Obviously this isn't really Celluloid, but we thought these looked like 2 piece extruded Celluloid.

Cupcake snap togethers...Snap togethers are usually plastic although some may have metal parts.  They consist of two or more pieces that "snap together".  Sometimes the pieces are fused together by the manufacturer, but most are not fused and can be snapped apart and snapped together.

Here are many of the button topics our club has studied:

We ended our day by creating
button-themed mixed media tags.

We shared a wonderful day and look forward to another 10 years of studying and collecting clothing buttons together!

The Evening Star Button Club meets within the Greater Metro area of Kansas City.  We meet monthly on the fourth Thursday at 7 pm.
